August 8, 2024 – Forget the busy professionals of New York City or the celebrities of Los Angeles — when it comes to the kings of online shopping, the unassuming residents of Denver, Colorado have taken the crown.
The Rocky Mountain town has emerged as America’s top online shopping city, with locals averaging a stunning 151 packages per person annually. That’s equivalent to one delivery every 2.4 days, keeping postal workers employed and challenging the notion that big cities are the epicenters of eCommerce.
The inaugural Grip Top 25 Online Shopping Cities reveals a surprising trend: while major hubs like Los Angeles and Miami are often associated with high online shopping habits, it’s smaller U.S. cities like Denver benefitting the most from the convenience of eCommerce and doorstep delivery.
New Yorkers, despite their reputation for being the ultimate consumers, ranked seventh on the list, ordering an average of 120 packages per person annually.
“Our report shows the shifting landscape of shopping in America and how many communities across the country are realizing the benefits of having essential needs delivered right to their home,” said Juan Meisel, CEO and Founder of Grip, a leading eCommerce technology company.
“It’s not just clothes being ordered online but frozen food, pharmaceuticals, fresh flowers, and anything else you can think of. With the simple press of a button, millions of Americans can have everything they need delivered to their doorstep, no matter where they are,” Meisel added.
In addition to Denver, Colorado Springs joined the top 10, showcasing Colorado’s dominance in the online shopping realm. Meanwhile, Florida’s retirement havens, Saint Petersburg and Naples, also feature prominently on the list.
San Francisco and Brooklyn, despite their bustling urban environments, lag behind in 20th and 23rd places respectively, further emphasizing the shifting tides in eCommerce.
